She received her doctorate in Counseling Psychology from Texas Tech University and her Masters in Social Work from the University of Texas at Arlington.
Marilyn combines listening empathetically and teaching life-giving skills to help others develop life strategies and abilities that will allow them to live healthier lives and enjoy better relationships. She utilizes an eclectic approach when treating clients, combining concepts from various theories to help clients work through painful life experiences that are holding them back from a peaceful, full life. As a Christian, Marilyn incorporates Christian principles in her counseling, believing that the Bible is one of the best psychology books in the world, but NEVER binds her beliefs on others, regardless of their worldview.
Dr. Stinson primarily counsels adults, but also guides some adolescents. She works with individuals struggling with depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress (PTSD), relationship problems (marital, premarital, adult child and parents, etc.) and other issues.
Dr. Stinson typically combines psychological and spiritual concepts in therapy. She believes the Bible is the best counseling / psychology book possible. Although Marilyn sees many clients who prefer Christian counseling, she respects those who do not want to bring spiritual matters into counseling, and works from this perspective with these clients.
